The Rams have completed their 3rd week of spring football and begin final preparation for annual Spring Game on Friday, May 18th. QB Yedi Louis has looked exceptionally sharp running the offense and has really emerged as a running and passing threat. The skills positions have been solid with 5-6 possible playmakers at the slot/receiver spots. The offensive line has several new young faces and has added depth this season.

Defensively, the Rams graduated several key players and are looking to fill numerous spots. The defensive line and linebackers are areas of concern but several newcomers have shown they are ready for action. The secondary returns 2 starters and looks to be very athletic to this point in the spring.

The Spring Game will be held on Friday, May 18 at the Berkner B Field and will begin with the Apollo and Liberty 7 on 7 teams competing at 5:30pm followed by the JV/Varsity scrimmage.

For the 7th time in the past 9 years, the Rams will be a part of the 5A playoff bracket. And for the third time in four years, the Rams will clash with the Garland Owls in the first round of the playoffs. The 27-8 win over the Sunset Bison on Senior Night moved the Rams record to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in district play and thus secured the playoff spot that the Rams so eagerly wanted. The Owls have wrapped up the District 10-5A District Title and will enter the playoffs on a roll. A win in their last game over Sachse would give the Owls an undefeated district record and 8 straight wins heading into the matchup with the Rams. The Rams are on a roll of their own as they are seeking a fifth win in a row as they host the Samuel Spartans for Homecoming 2011 this Friday (Nov. 4) at Ram-Wildcat Stadium. Final details of the first round playoff games are tentative but it looks as if the Rams will meet the Owls at Williams Stadium in Garland on Friday, Nov. 11 at 730pm. Stay tuned for further information……………………

After an hard-fought 16-13 win over Lake Highlands, Coach Ledford and the entire coaching staff feared an “emotional letdown” going into their game with the Richardson Eagles. But motivation was not hard to find as word spread quickly that the Rams would serve as the opponent of choice for Eagle Homecoming 2011. And as expected, the Rams played with pride and spirit en route to a 46-21 win over the Eagles. QB Yedidiah Louis scored four rushing TD’s and compiled 121 yds rushing and 66 yds passing to pace the Rams offensive effort. RB/slot Fred White added 119 yds rushing and scored the Ram’s final TD on a 68 yd run in the fourth quarter. Slot Quincy Jones scored twice on both his carries in the game. In all, the offense tallied over 400 yards and did a great job of controlling the clock throughout the game.

The Rams defense played well after giving up an opening drive TD to the Eagles. The defense tallied 2 interceptions and a blocked FG and came up with several big stops throughout the game. DE Ja’Michael Smith, DT Emmanuel Anderson, and LB Max Olen were key contributors in the win. The Rams special teams also played a huge role, despite missing 3 extra points on the evening. The special teams units forced fumbles from the Eagles kickoff return and punt return teams to set up the Rams offense in great field position both times.

The Rams (5-3 overall, 3-2 in district) return to action at home this week against the Sunset Bisons. Sunset (1-6 overall and 0-5 in district) are coming off of a 45-0 loss to undefeated Skyline and will look to spoil Senior Night for the Rams. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and Senior Night activities begin at 7pm at Ram-Wildcat Stadium.

The prestigious honor of being chosen as the Richardson Eagles 2011 Homecoming opponent has excited the entire Ram football program this week. The Rams and Eagles enter the contest with identical 2-2 district records and the winner will increase their playoff chances. The Eagles, who have beaten the Rams by a 3 point margin each of the past two seasons, are led by junior QB Parker Smith. Smith leads the Eagles air and ground attacks and is boosted by the running and pass catching abilities of Devonte Branch and Cameron Booty. The Eagles defense is very aggressive and will look to contain Ram QB Yedidiah Lewis, who is fresh off of a 181 yard rushing performance against Lake Highlands last week.

The Eagles will begin their Homecoming festivities with a parade at 4pm followed by a tailgate party at 5:30 at Eagle-Mustang Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. GO RAMS!!
