Game # 9- RHS Eagles

After posting a 49-14 Homecoming victory over the WT White Longhorns last week, the Rams return to action this week against a longtime foe, the Richardson Eagles.  The Eagles are coming off of a 62-17 loss to the Skyline Raiders and they enter the contest with an identical 3-5 overall and 2-3 district record as the Rams.  RHS Head Coach Brian Chandler will have his group ready for action as they bring in a high powered offense, led by QB Michael Curtis, RB/WR’s Trinsten Cockrell and Tylor Cook, RB Daevon Woods, and a stout offense line led by senior Christian Allen.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Eagle Mustang Stadium.

Pearce Week

After logging their first district win last week against Sunset, the Rams look to continue their winning ways as they face the Pearce Mustangs at Eagle Mustang Stadium on Friday (Oct. 18).  The Rams beat Sunset 40-0 behind a strong ground attack, four field goals by kicker Tanner Lange, and a stingy defensive effort.  The win raised the Rams record to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in District 9-5A.  The Mustangs (3-3 overall and 2-1in district) enter the contest with wins over Richardson and WT White and a 35-7 loss last week to the Skyline Raiders.  The Mustangs are a senior laden team led by offensive standouts JR Griffin, Jeffrey Nwarie, and Gjordan Dumas.  In last week’s game,18 of the Mustangs 22 starters were listed as seniors.  Their other team strengths are a big, agile offensive line,  strong special teams, and aggressive linebacker and safety play.

Last year, the Rams and Mustangs participated in a shootout.  The Rams fell behind 21-0 early in the 2nd quarter before rallying for a 50-37 home win.  This year’s matchup is crucial for both teams’ playoff hopes.  A third district loss for the Rams could prove to be fatal.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.

This week’s sub varsity football schedule:

JV Rams will host the Pearce JV-  Thurs. Oct. 17   6pm    at the Berkner B Field

9th BHS White v.s 9th Pearce White-  Thurs. Oct. 17 5:30pm  at the Pearce B Field

9th BHS Green v.s 9th Pearce Blue-  Thurs. Oct. 17  7pm   at the Pearce B Field

Rams Look for 1st District Win Against Sunset

The Rams (1-4 overall and 0-2 in district) enter the Thursday night contest this week against the Sunset Bison with only one thing on their minds—-getting that first district win.  After a 55-21 loss to Lake Highlands two weeks ago, the Rams showed measurable improvement in a 31-14 loss to the Jesuit Rangers.  The Rams trailed 17-14 at half and could not muster much offensive production in the 2nd half.  A bright spot for the Rams has been QB/WR Calvin Jones, who is 2nd in the 5A area in rushing with over 700 yards.

The Rams and Bison (0-5 overall and 0-2 in district) will tangle at James Jones Field at the Sprague Complex on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

The Freshmen and JV Rams will combine into one squad and play the Sunset JV on Wed. Oct. 9 at the Berkner B Field.  Kickoff is set for 6pm.

The Varsity Rams and the LH Wildcats will battle in their District 9-5A opener on Friday, Sept. 27.  The Rams (1-2) are coming off of a bye week and have been working hard to prepare for a pesky LH squad.  The Wildcats (0-3) enter district play after battling 3 quality opponents- Mesquite, Plano West, and Rowlett.  The Wildcats are led by QB Brock Jones, RB Tyler Hughes, and WR’s Sam Iheke and Jamarice Preston.  They feature a big play offense and a pesky defense.  Coach Smith will have the Wildcats ready for district play and the Rams hope to avoid last year’s 46-10 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm and the Rams will be the “Home” team this year.

Here is our sub varsity schedule for this week:

Freshmen White v.s LH White      5:30pm     Thurs. Sept. 26     Berkner B Field

Freshmen Green v.s LH Red        7pm          Thurs. Sept. 26     Berkner B Field

Game 3- Plano East Panthers

The Rams enter game 3 of the 2013 varsity season with momentum from a 42-7 win over the North Garland Raiders last Friday.  QB Calvin Jones led a strong offensive attack that posted a 35-0 halftime lead and the Ram defense rose to the occasion with much improved play.  The Rams (1-1 on the year) will face a stiff test in their next contest as the Plano East Panthers are 2-0 and fresh off of a 42-7 win over Naaman Forest and a hard fought 28-20 win over the Garland Owls.  First year PESH Head Coach Randy Jackson and his staff have the Panthers playing at a high level and they bring an explosive offense and fundamentally sound defense into our matchup.  The offense is led by QB Miles Thompson (75% completion rate), RB’s Lionel Wills and Jaquan Douglas (combined for over 300 yds rushing), and WR’s Anthony Maiorello and Malik Simmons (combined for 26 receptions).   The contest will also serve as PESH Homecoming 2013 and the Rams will need to play their best in all phases of the game.  Last year, the Panthers came into Ram Wildcat and left with a 62-28 win.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Kimbrough Stadium in Murphy this Friday.

The sub varsity Rams also fared well against the Raiders.  The freshmen continued to shine with a 39-16 win and the JV Rams traveled over to North Garland HS and escaped with a 9-6 fourth quarter win.  Both teams are 2-0 on the year.

This week’s Ram FB schedule:

  • Freshmen White v.s Williams HS @ Clark East Field – Thurs. Sept. 12 @ 5:30p
  • Freshmen Green v.s. Williams HS @Clark East Field – Thurs. Sept. 12 @ 7p
  • JV Rams v.s PESH JV @ Berkner B Field – Thurs. Sept. 12 @ 5:30p
  • Varsity Rams v.s PESH @ Kimbrough Stadium (in Murphy)- Fri. Sept.13 @ 7:30p

Preparations for North Garland Raiders

The Varsity Rams opened their 2013 season with a 35-7 road loss against the South Garland Colonels.  The Rams scored late in the second quarter on a short run by QB Calvin Jones to tie the score at 7-7 at the half.  The game remained close in the third quarter and the Rams trailed 14-7 early in the 4th quarter.  The Colonels controlled the clock and tallied 3 scores in the fourth quarter to finalize the result.

The Rams will return to action on Friday, Sept. 6 in their home opener at Ram-Wildcat Stadium.  The North Garland Raiders bring a similar 0-1 record into the contest as they lost 36-6 to Irving Nimitz last week.  The Raiders and Rams battled last season with the Rams rolled up 485 yards of offense in a 48-19 win over the Raiders.  Kickoff is set for 7:30pm on Friday night.

The subvarsity Rams fared much better as both teams pitched shut outs.  The freshmen Rams cruised to a 28-0 win and the JV Rams dominated in a 24-0 decision against the Colonels.  Both teams return to action on Thurs. Sept. 5 against the North Garland Raiders.  The freshmen will kickoff on the Berkner B Field @ 5:30p and the JV Rams will travel down Buckingham Rd. to North Garland HS for a similar 5:30p kickoff.

Bishop Lynch Scrimmage on 8/23

The positive optimism surrounding the Ram football team is starting to peak as the start of the 2013 season is upon us.  The Rams will host the Bishop Lynch Friars on Friday, August 23 at the Berkner B Field.  The Freshmen and JV squads will scrimmage from 6-7pm followed by the varsity squads at 7pm.  Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for children.  The varsity season opener will be Friday, August 30 when the Rams travel to Homer B. Johnson Stadium in Garland to face off with the South Garland Colonels.  Kickoff is set for 7pm.

The Rams will wrap up their spring workouts with their annual Spring Game on Friday, May 17th at the BHS “B” Field.  The action will begin at 5:30pm when the Apollo and Liberty 7 on 7 teams compete against each other in a showcase of future Ram talent.  The JV and Varsity Rams will begin their action at approximately 6:05pm as the offense will face off against the defense in 16 periods lasting 6 minutes each.  Tickets are available at the gate (Adults- $3 each and Students-$2 each).  Come out and support these athletes as they give us a glimpse into the Ram football future.

2013 Ram Football Schedule is Released

As the Rams continue to train and work hard in spring football, the 2013 District 9-5A football schedule has been released.  The Rams will begin their season with a home scrimmage against the Bishop Lynch Friars on Friday, August 23 @ 7pm at the Berkner “B” Field.  The first non-district game will be a road contest on Friday, August 30 as the Rams travel to Homer B. Johnson Stadium in Garland to face off with the South Garland Colonels.  The district opener will be on Friday, Sept. 27 as the Rams will be the “home” team in a rivalry matchup with the Lake Highlands Wildcats.

Coach Ledford and the staff are very excited about the upcoming 2013 season.  The schedule is very favorable for the Rams as 7 of the 10 games will be played at an RISD Stadium (5 at Ram Wildcat and 2 at Eagle Mustang). The Rams are planning a return to the playoffs and are seeking to become the 8th team in the Coach Ledford regime to make the playoffs in the past 11 seasons (since 2003).
